PROPELLER WELDER FINISHER

Full Time, Permanent


As a Shipyard Propeller Welder Finisher, your primary goal is to contribute to the repair of ship propellers through proficient welding techniques and meticulous finishing processes. Your expertise in welding and finishing will be instrumental in ensuring the structural integrity, balance, and hydrodynamic efficiency of ship propellers, ultimately supporting the safe and efficient operation of maritime vessels.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Clean blade and weld based on requirements

  • Determine the appropriate welding equipment, material and method to be used based on requirements

  • Set up components (cutting, fitting, grinding, etc.) for welding blade based on requirements

  • Weld components using brazing method or wire feeder method

  • Finish and balance propeller blades

  • Using an electric grinder to remove blemishes or deficiencies

  • Continuous grinding and polishing of propeller surfaces to create desired finish product

  • Assist in black light testing or other methods of Quality Control Testing

  • Prepare propeller blades for straightening process by heating the blade surfaces with gas torches

  • Work in multiple environments from an indoor facility, elevated heights, which may include tasks performed on scaffolding, ladders, or other elevated structures, confined spaces within vessels, outside spaces with exposure to all elements;

  • Keep the shop/work site as a safe and clean environment to work in;

  • Comply with A.F Theriault & Son Ltd. Policies and procedures and Nova Scotia Occupational Health and Safety Regulations.  Follow safety protocols and maintain, use and wear all personal protective equipment (PPE) applicable to the area you will be in or the operation or task you are about to conduct to prevent accidents.  Ensure potential health and safety hazards are corrected or brought to the attention of Management and/or Health and Safety Committee in order to prevent accidents in the workplace;

  • Perform other duties as required;

  • Ensure that materials on jobs in hand are being correctly charged to the proper job numbers, activity codes and/or others;

  • Willing to work overtime and weekends as needed to complete project deadlines;

  • Willing to go to apprenticeship training if applicable;

  • Participate in continuous improvement efforts.


Requirements

  • Previous shipyard/marine experience is preferred.

  • Experiencer using electric grinder and other hand-held tools is required

  • Must be physically able to lift up to and including 50 lbs.

  • Applicants must be safety conscious

  • Possess the ability to work well both with a team or unsupervised

  • Applicant must provide steel toe boots, all other Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required for the position is provided
