PLUMBER

Full Time, Permanent


As a Shipyard Plumber, your primary responsibility is to contribute to the installation, maintenance, and repair of plumbing systems within vessels during construction, renovation, and repair projects within the shipyard. Your expertise in plumbing, knowledge of marine-specific systems, and attention to detail will be critical in ensuring the functionality, safety, and reliability of plumbing infrastructure onboard vessels.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in installing and maintaining plumbing systems including assembling pipe sections, tubing or fittings, using couplings, clamps, screws, bolt cement, plastic, solvent, caulking or soldering, brazing or welding equipment;

  • Install supports and hangers for pipe, fixtures and equipment;

  • Assemble and install valves and fittings;

  • Measure, cut, thread, and bend pipe to required angle;

  • Observe pressure gauges to identify leaks;

  • Test pipe systems by filing pipes or plumbing fixtures with water or air and observe pressure gauges to detect and locate leaks and fix leaks;

  • Install thru-hull fitting and sea connections;

  • Rebuild and repair valves and sea connections;

  • Work in multiple environments from an indoor facility, elevated heights, which may include tasks performed on scaffolding, ladders, or other elevated structures, confined spaces within vessels, outside spaces with exposure to all elements;

  • Keep the shop/work site as a safe and clean environment to work in;

  • Comply with A.F Theriault & Son Ltd. Policies and procedures and Nova Scotia Occupational Health and Safety Regulations.  Follow safety protocols and maintain, use and wear all personal protective equipment (PPE) applicable to the area you will be in or the operation or task you are about to conduct to prevent accidents.  Ensure potential health and safety hazards are corrected or brought to the attention of Management and/or Health and Safety Committee in order to prevent accidents in the workplace;

  • Perform other duties as required;

  • Ensure that materials on jobs in hand are being correctly charged to the proper job numbers, activity codes and/or others;

  • Willing to work overtime and weekends as needed to complete project deadlines;

  • Willing to go to apprenticeship training if applicable;

  • Participate in continuous improvement efforts.

Requirements

  • Red Seal Journeyperson Plumbing Certificate (Preferred)

  • Have proven experience in plumbing

  • Demonstrate knowledge in maintenance, repair and installation of all types of plumbing systems and equipment;

  • Be trustworthy, dependable and confident; have a positive attitude, have good judgement and be a role model for others;

  • Be able to work in a team environment;

  • Be able to read/understand blueprints and/or drawings;

  • Be conscientious in their work (attention to detail);

  • Be able to communicate in either English or French;

  • Be able to effectively manage his/her time and prioritize work as required; and

  • Be able to work overtime hours as required.


Required Tools:

  • Variety of different size pipe wrenches up to 2’

  • Combination wrenches up to at least 1.25”

  • Screwdrivers

  • Allen Keys

  • Hammer

  • Pliers, vice grips

  • Punches and chisels

  • Pipe/tubing cutter

  • Measuring Tape

  • Pry bar

  • Socket set
